Are You A Candidate?
In order to receive implants, you must have adequate jawbone tissue and enough room to support implants. If you have too little bone to receive implants, you may require a bone graft procedure beforehand. A preparatory procedure will also be required if you do not have enough room for implants because of low sinuses. Dr. Wiseman is able to perform both of these procedures himself in our office, eliminating the need for referrals or outside treatment.
Alternatively, we offer mini implants which are smaller, and do not require as much bone tissue to be placed. Dr. Wiseman will conduct a thorough examination, and take scans of your jaw to determine the type and number of implants that would best suit your needs.
Dental implants are able to provide the ultimate level of support to restorations because they are fixed permanently in your jaw. Your prosthesis will not slip or shift, allowing you to eat and speak with complete confidence.
Benefits of Dental Implants
Implants are able to provide significant benefits, which make them a vital investment for your future oral health. Because they replace lost tooth roots, the small posts send out regenerative signals that halt bone loss caused by missing teeth, preserving the shape of your jawbone. You will no longer have to worry about having dentures relined and adjusted to fit the changing shape of your jaw. Dental implants are also able to provide the ultimate level of support to restorations because they are fixed permanently in your jaw. Your prosthesis will not slip or shift, allowing you to eat and speak with complete confidence. Additionally, your implants can last for the rest of your life with proper care.
Implant Treatment Process
If you only need to replace one tooth, you can receive one implant and a crown. For multiple consecutive teeth, you may be able to receive a bridge or partial denture that is supported by two or more posts. Dentures can be supported by several posts. Dr. Wiseman is also able to perform a special technique which uses as few as four posts to support the whole arch.
During implant surgery, the small, threaded posts will be placed strategically into the strongest areas of the jawbone for optimal results. Once in place, the gums will be sutured closed, and you will spend the next three to six months healing. While you heal, your jaw will fuse to the implants through a process known as osseointegration, to permanently fix the posts in place.
When you have healed completely, you will return to the office to receive abutment, or connector pieces, to which your restoration will attach. Once abutment pieces are in place, Dr. Wiseman can attach your customized restoration. If you already wear dentures, he can also have your prosthesis converted to be implant-retained, improving the fit and feel of your current restoration.
